President's Message

Welcome to the start of a new chapter year! It is an honor and privilege to have the trust of my fellow members to lead this outstanding organization.

I would like to welcome our board of directors and thank everyone for their continued commitment to the SMPS Upstate New York Chapter. This year’s board has several familiar faces who have served our community for many years, as well as some new faces and voices ready to share ideas and improve our organization. We are all extremely excited for what lies ahead this year!

Thanks to each of you for your participation and responses to our 2020-2021 program planning survey. While the COVID-19 pandemic has hindered in-person meetings and conferences, we are committed to incorporating your feedback and providing you with new programming and educational opportunities. Until we are able to resume in-person events, we are pleased to announce we are continuing to host virtual events, providing us with the opportunity to connect with colleagues across the state. Our next event, Infographics 101: Tips and Tricks, will take place Tuesday, September 29th at 3:00 pm. I hope you join us in learning more about how we all can take advantage of this marketing communication tool.

In addition to our local chapter events, SMPS National has a wide variety of virtual educational opportunities, many of which are free to members. Don’t forget to take advantage of these benefits:

Thank you all for being a valuable part of our SMPS community. Please do not hesitate to contact me or any other member of the board with any questions or if you would like to become more involved.

Take care and stay healthy!

We are proud to announce the 2020-2021 Board Members!

Member Spotlight

Nicole Dzuba, Marketing Manager, C&S Companies

How long have you been a member and how did that come about?

I first joined SMPS in 2017 and have increasingly become more active with the organization. I became interested in joining after attending a panel event where I was able to meet other marketers and share strategies and ideas. The insight I gained from that one event was enough to get my supervisor on board with membership.

Insights about what you gain from your participation in programs and the board:

For me, it’s about broadening my network and knowledge. I’ve created meaningful professional relationships with fellow SMPS members. Having a network of people to connect with and bounce ideas off of (and sometimes commiserate…) is invaluable. And the programs offered are a great way to stay up on industry trends and improve my skills.

What do you find most valuable about your membership?

The connections I’ve made through attending the regional conference and local events.

Advice for getting the most out of membership for those considering joining:

First, attend as many events as you can to network with others in SMPS. Second, there are a lot of great resources on the SMPS website that shouldn’t be overlooked. From career and proposal resources to industry articles, there is a wealth of information and advice for marketers in the AEC industry.

Favorite SMPS Memory:

Meeting everyone at NERC in Rhode Island last year. It was great to personally connect with some of the people that I’ve been working with via email for years.
